Mighty Artifacts – Dinner and a Movie

The spot to see articles featuring tons of Warcraft movie magic! Scene of movie attenders enjoying a movie and various foods at a Dinner and a Movie.

Are you as excited about the future as we are?  Yes?  Then talk a seat, grab a snack, and enjoy Mooclucking’s latest video, Mighty Artifacts, with us!

What a glimpse into the future, right?  And a surprise peek into the past!  Looks like these upcoming artifact weapons could become a great asset to what Sayge’s vision foretells.

Mighty Artifacts allows for a peek into the future when it comes to player artifact weapons. For instance, some will have a scale of Deathwing as a shield, while other specializations may not have as grand of an item.  Moo includes a story of how grand even the plainest artifact could be and how each could have its unique purpose.  He also points out how commonplace legendary, lore filled weapons such as Ashbringer will become in the future. Nixxiom can also be found lending his voice acting in this video.

Frenone’s 2016 Badge Preview – Art Gallery

Art Gallery Banner shows paintings found in World of Warcraft, and features WoW style artists.

Frenone’s 2016 Badge Preview was spotted on Twitter recently showing how her badges will look this year and WOW! I love the border that is around the edges. It really highlights the class feel of a Druid complete with claw marks on the nameplates. The druid herself is beautiful! I love the glow of her shoulders. I can’t wait to see more character badges in this style as we get closer to Blizzcon. Badge season is upon us and I expect we will be seeing more of the amazing work from the Warcraft community!

How To Find Frenone

Frenone is one of the Badge Babes and you can see more of her amazing work on her Website, Twitter, or Patreon.

Realms, What Are They? – The Starting Zone

Banner with human & orc confused level ones in front of the starting zone they begin in.

Realms… What are they? Today we discuss them on The Starting Zone.

Hello, students. If you all would kindly take a seat we shall commence today’s lesson. Today, we will discuss realms.  A realm is basically a server onto which your character is born.  This becomes your character’s home, and you will be there with other people who are also on the same realm or a realm connected with your own.  There are many types of realms and many things to consider when deciding which realm to create your character.  First off, let’s discuss the types of realms you can choose from.

Types of Realms

If you look through the list of realms you will notice different information is given for each one.  While all the information is important, the information that will greatly change your experience within the game is the type of realm you play on.  Let’s take a look at these types:

  • Normal – Realms labeled as “Normal” mean they are PVE. PVE stands for “Player versus Environment” and is the most friendly type of realm for new players.  On these realms you don’t have to worry about being attacked by other players while you are exploring the world.  This can be changed if you choose to make yourself vulnerable to attack by turning on the option for “Player versus Player” combat, also known as PVP.  While you can turn this option on at any time you are never required to.  This gives new players and veteran players who are not interested in PVP combat a more peaceful environment to enjoy the game. There are designated areas such as battlegrounds and arenas where you can participate in PVP combat at any time, but PVE realms make questing in the open world safer by not letting other players attack you without your permission.
  • PVP – PVP, or “Player versus Player”, realms keep each player in a state of constantly being in danger of being attacked by other players of the opposing faction. When you are out in the world your character will stay flagged for PVP.  This means your PVP option will be turned on and will remain that way.  This is can be much more stressful for new players since enemy players of any level can attack you, including those who have already reached the maximum level cap.
  • RP – RP stands for “Role Playing”. These realms are PVE with one major difference. Instead of playing your character as you, you are also pretending to be that character.  A character who’s story you create and mold however you please. Want to be Knight Faltor from Goldshire searching for his missing jewels?  How about Groktol from the Northern Barrens who’s family was taken by flamboyant gnolls?  It’s whomever’s story you wish to create.  The main thing to remember is while playing on role play realms you are expected to remain in character whenever you have contact with other players.
  • RPPVP – RPPVP stands for “Role Played Player versus Player”. The same rules apply here as on the role play realms, but this time you add the always on PVP option to the mix.

Realm Population

Another thing to look at from the information on the realm selection list is the population data.  Each realm is marked as “Low“, “Medium”, or “High”.  There may also be realms which say “New Players”.  A realm’s population mainly affects new players in a few ways.  Realms with high populations may sometimes have a queue in which players have to wait to login and play.  This is mainly an issue when new content is released and more of the population tries to login.  Another disadvantage of the high population realms is you may find more competition for quest objectives, fewer resources such as stone and herbs, and less rare Non-Player Characters also known as “NPCs”.  Low population realms also come with their own concerns such as the realm’s economy.  Each realm has its own auction house which people of the realm use.  When there are less people who use the auction house, prices for items may vary greatly when compared to realms with a higher population.

Playing with Friends

A major factor for many people in Azeroth is the ability to play with their friends.  If you are joining Azeroth to play with your friends please remember to ask them which realm they are currently playing and make your character on the same realm.  Thanks to cross realm parties and raids you will be able to play with your friends if you are not on the same realm.  However, certain actions will still be unavailable such as trading and joining guilds.

Realm Time Zones

Warcraft in-game clock showing the local time and realms time.Another overlooked detail of realms is that they are not all on the same time zone.  While this most likely will not affect a new player immediately, it can be a factor later in the game if your schedule conflicts with the schedule of those you play with.  Let me give you an example: your guild raids at 7:00 PM on a realm that is located in the Eastern Time zone.  If you are located in the Pacific Time zone, that will be 4:00 PM your time.  While the rest of your guild has had time to come home; have supper; and login to prepare for the raid, you may find yourself still at work; at school; or dealing with other daily activities.  While the realm selection screen does not tell you what time zone each realm is in, you can easily check by looking at the in-game clock or by checking the realm statistics at warcraftrealms.com.

While all this may seem complicated for you new students, I can assure you understanding realms is easy after spending a little time in Azeroth.  There are more advanced topics we could get into, but I see that today we are out of time!  I do hope you have enjoyed today’s lecture.  Class dismissed.

How to Plan an Azeroth Party – Party with Carl

Where can you find Warcraft party knowledge? at Party with Carl! Seen is a World of Warcraft calendar backdrop with Carl & his balloons.

Sometimes you want to go on a great adventure, and sometimes you want to party.  I am Carl Goodup and I say your party should always be a great adventure! I have some interestin’ party ideas I want to share with you but today I want to start with the basics. How to plan an Azeroth party!

Dream Up a Theme

The first thing you need to think about is a theme.  Yes! You need one! Themes make your parties memorable and you want parties people will never forget. What would you remember more, “Carl invited us to the dock for drinks” or “Carl invited us to a ‘Embrace Your Party Animal’ party at the petting zoo”? Take notes from Disney and theme, theme, theme! Not that I would know about Disney! HA!

Pick a Location

This goes along with the theme you just picked. Sure your local town inn or tavern has an endless supply of food and drink, but does it fit your theme? Say you want to plan a pirate party for Pirates Day. Would a tavern fit better or a beach near Booty Bay? Be adventurous!

Schedule Your Party

You have a theme, you have a place, now when is this shindig going to happen? Remember to factor in the typical schedules of the people you’re inviting. Is it a guild event? If so what days and times are the majority of your guildies online?  Avoid major holidays like BlizzCon, Thanksgiving, or Christmas Day when people may be offline due to prior engagements. Another thing to consider is what season it is. Sometimes people log in later during summer months.  Keep in mind your schedule might not fit in everyone’s free time and that is okay! If someone misses this party, maybe they can make the next one! You’re planning for the majority of people, but not each individual!

Make Your Party Itinerary

Now it’s time to think of how you want your party to flow. Are you going to have contests? Are you going to give prizes? How long do you want it to last and how will you fill the time? A good plan can mean the difference between hosting a hit or a miss party!

Start out by estimating how long each part of your event will take. Give time for people to arrive and greet each other. If you are traveling somewhere, whether it’s an old raid or gnome run, get a general idea of how much time it will take and pencil it in. Add any follow up activities such as rewarding prizes and allow time to get everything done.  This itinerary isn’t meant to be a hard schedule that must be kept to the second. It’s to help you know “what’s next” when things start dying down. We want people engaged!

Publicize, Publicize, Publicize!

A party can’t announce itself! Start announcing your event one to two weeks before party time. Put it on the guild website, add it to the calendar, and get macros ready to post your information! Tell everyone you know that you are throwing a party and what you’re going to be doing!  If someone is less active or online when you’re not, send them an in-game invitation.  Don’t forget the social media!  Add reminders to Facebook or Twitter!  Remind people a week before, a day before, and the day of your event. If there are prizes, let people know.  People love to win fun things!

The Day of Your Party

The day of your event there are a few things to remember to do before your guests arrive:

  1. Make sure you have any prizes you are giving in your bag if it’s something in game. Trust me, you will be way too busy for making bank runs. You can even wrap up mounts, toys, pets, ect!
  2. Pick up any items you plan on giving away as favors. Ask a friend if they can help you hand these out. Depending on how many people you have this can be time consuming to do yourself especially if you are also busy being a good host! Fireworks or alcohol are popular choices but be prepared if you have any younger people in your group. Bring these lads alternatives to alcohol like foods or potions that give your character a special buff or effect.  While there’s no official legal drinking age in Azeroth, some parents would rather avoid their children getting tipsy.
  3. Arrive early! Go to the location of your party and invite people to a raid group that are coming. Now you have a chat for people who are attending. If you have or know a warlock, consider asking them to help you get the party started by summoning people to the area. This will speed things up and make your party accessible to anyone who may be too low of a level to easily travel there themselves.  If they are too low for the area, remember to kill any higher level mobs in the area as they respawn.

Party Time

The magical time has arrived. There’s just one more thing left for you to do…  Relax! You have been planning this for weeks. It’s time to enjoy the company of your friends. Go with the flow of the crowd and use your itinerary just as a guide to keep the party going.  Congratulations on your event!

Now get out there and plan an amazing party! Don’t forget to send old Carl a picture to darkmoontimes@gmail.com with the subject: Our Adventure Book.  I would love to see the memories you have made.  I’ll have more party ideas soon, but until then adventure is out there!

Legion Invading August 30th – Azeroth News

Selina welcoming you to the Darkmoon Faire at her information booth.

After emerging visibly shaken from a tent today at the Darkmoon Faire, Sayge began sharing what many are calling a detailed vision of things to come.

“I saw King Varian on a large airship writing a letter to his son.  He spoke of a darkness that was coming and how he must fight it. Just as he finished, his situation began to become more dangerous. I saw the King on the deck with a fierce battle underway on the horizon.”

Sayge's vision upon the Alliance boat during the Legion invasion.

“I saw another ship fly close to the King’s. Lady Sylvanas herself was on board. They nodded at each other before taking up arms as if they shared a common enemy. Just then,I realized what this enemy, this darkness, was. It was the Burning Legion, I could tell by the wretched green fel cloud I saw in the distance.  Then, the attack began!”

“The King ordered his crew to open fire, but he had no sooner spoke the word when an infernal crashed into his airship! It climbed aboard the deck. The King was almost knocked overboard but caught onto the ship just in time. He was still too close to the infernal and was about to be attacked, when Lady Sylvanas came to the rescue and shot the infernal in the hand!”

Sayge's vision with the wounded infernal during the legion invasion.

“Just then, the King’s airship crashed into the side of Sylvanas’.  The Dark Lady had to take quick action not to be hit herself. She used a rope to propel herself onto the King’s ship.Together they defeated this monstrosity but at the cost of damaging the ship to catastrophic proportions. The ship crashed into the water.”

“I saw the King sinking quickly. Then, as if he had found the will to continue his fight, he opened his eyes and fought his way ashore. There, together with Lady Sylvanas, he began fighting demon after demon. Then he yelled ‘For Azeroth!’ then my vision went dark. I only saw one more thing…  I saw the faces of King Wrynn and Lady Sylvanas along with glowing numbers…  08.30.16”

Legion invasion date visioned by Sayge. Seen is a foggy view of Sylvanas Windrunner & Varian Wrynn with the Legion logo between them.Could this indeed be a prophecy of an attack by the Burning Legion? Could another Legion invasion be on the way? Here at the Darkmoon Times we will be watching for signs of the Legion invasion August 30! Stay tuned for any more breaking news!
